Radiantly Alive December 2008 Newsletter
Greetings,
Here in Bali people are talking about the new Indonesian anti-pornography law – some worried, some concerned, some incredulous. There’s news now that Indonesian Islamic leaders may ban Muslims from practicing Yoga. No doubt it always seems that the times we’re living in are the pinnacle of progress, development and change. Evolution or devolution? Progress or regress?
One thing is for sure – we will not stop change from occurring. Do we fight the tide or surf? A lot of interesting info floats around the internet these days. There are some astonishing facts at this site, one of which is that the top 10 ‘in demand’ jobs for 2010 did not exist in 2004. Our world is clearly changing faster than ever, and unpredictably so. So what to do? We know worrying is praying for what we don’t want. The best preparation we can do is to make ourselves more adaptable. The only thing we can count on as we move into even more rapidly changing times is ourselves – our own ability to be flexible and creative in response to what we encounter. Below are 5 tips to help you with this – specifically over the holiday season.
I hope you find some inspiration and education in the words and images below. The brighter we get, the brighter our world.

| Retreat Recap - November 2008 |
Retreats are a chance for us to break out of our old routines and way of life, and become more connected with our inner vibrant self. Our 2008 retreat was wildly successful - we dove into twice daily yoga classes, summitted mountains (both literal and figurative), were nourished by Simone's incredibly delicious meals, trekked through villages and rice fields, soared and blanced with Acro-Yoga, and more.
We've posted a photo album on our Facebook page - come check it out! If you've yet to connect with us on Facebook, sign on and send a friend request to "Radiantly Alive". It's another great way to keep up to date on events and our latest news. |

| Five Ways to Enliven Your Flexibility and Creativity |
1. Notice your thoughts about how you handle change and what change means. No thought is right or wrong, though some are helpful and some less than helpful. If you’ve tended to see yourself as less than resourceful, unable to cope well with new situations…or if you look into the future and assume that things are getting worse, NOW might be the perfect time to change your thoughts. It’s virtually cliche – yet nonetheless true – that what we believe we create. Energy follows thought.
2. If everyone around you is choosing something that you know is not in your best interest – whether it’s food, media, attitude, lifestyle – don’t be pulled down by them. Be a pioneer instead. Model another possibility for them. Without preaching, without insisting anyone join you – simply out of the joy and knowledge of how energizing it is to choose what supports your Vitality.
3. Five minutes is better than none. If you’re extra busy, if you’re traveling, if you’re out of your usual routines, simply taking five minutes to center yourself can be enormously helpful. Five minutes of yoga is exponentially better than none. Whether it’s sitting still, exercising, writing in a gratitude journal or whatever way you have to connect to your source (and maybe you’ll find more than five minutes), it will be time well invested.
4. Remember to fully enjoy whatever you’re doing, and that you can start new at any point. Many of us are conditioned to think that we simply give up on health and spiritual pursuits over the holidays. We’ll overeat and stop meditating and then go back to our endeavors in January. And, of course, we’ll feel guilty. We could – instead – love our rich meals. Enjoy them fully without remorse. And then at the next meal choose to eat how we know will serve our Radiance best. There’s even some physiological benefit to overeating once in a while. No matter what we did yesterday, we can choose something different today.
5. Find inspiration. One of the quickest easiest ways to succeed (at whatever you wish) is to find role models. Simply remembering that someone has achieved what you’d like to achieve is a reminder that you can do it to. And if they’ve done it, already, they’ve paved the way for you. When we’re inspired we have unlimited energy. WE can accomplish anything. You could place a photo of someone who is a hero to you in a place where you’ll see it daily. Perhaps a loved one helps you stay motivated and focused. I find the words of great achievers very powerful.
“Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it now. Boldness has genius, magic and power in it. Begin it now!”
In every depressed period in history, the quality of some people's lives deteriorated, and the quality of some lives improved. What makes the difference? Your thinking. Which option are you voting for? And then your actions. In what outcome are you investing your energy? When we add more and more value into the world, we are rewarded. |

| Astrological Tidbits |
The major astrological news in the near future continues to focus on the opposition of Saturn and Uranus, the two principles of stability and change that are apparently in a conflicted relationship. Our mission is to find out how to use Saturn’s appreciation of structure, status quo and discipline in a creative synergy with Uranus’s need for rebellion, freedom and routine-busting. This major theme will be strongly in affect through March, and then off and on again through 2010.
A couple of smaller astro news flashes to consider are the full moon on Dec 12, as it’s going to provoke more of the Saturn/Uranus challenge with some extra fire as Mars and the Sun are together (conjunct) and opposite the moon. That Sun/mars/moon axis is directly square to the Saturn/Uranus axis, creating a 4-square configuration in the sky. We may see it in our lives as extra vehemence and charge to the aforementioned ‘battle’ between stability and change.
Pluto has recently re-entered the sign of Capricorn, where it remains for the next 16 years. Pluto, who demands deep transformation, in the Saturnian sign of Capricorn means some deep restructuring of what might have seemed rigid. We may find this restructuring in our own lives (more info available by finding what house in your chart Pluto moves through now) and in our common lives – the world around us. We’ll likely find the urge to burn the old and birth the new stronger than usual from December 19- 24 – as the sun joins Pluto – and December 26 – January 2 – when Mars joins Pluto.
Remember, the movement of the planets indicates an energy that is affecting all of us. Far more powerful is how that particular (and other) symbolism is operating through our individual charts. |
